y= log2 X with the two is the base. What would I have to do y in order to express it as log8 X where 8 is the base?

Apply change of base property.

Or, just rearrange your current equation for x then take log base 8 of both sides.

y = log2(x) means 2^y = x ... Now take logs with base 8 of both sides..
