In a ski jump the skier drops by a height of 200 m before reaching the edge
of the ski jump.
If there were no friction between the snow and the skis and no air resistance
on the skier:
(a) Calculate the speed the skier would have at the bottom of the 200 m
drop.
In fact the total frictional force (including friction between the snow and the
skis and the air resistance on the skier) is 250 N.
(b) Calculate the speed that the skier has at the bottom of the 200 m drop
when friction is included. The track is 500 m long. The skier and
equipment have a mass of 80 kg.
