Falmouth help?

My true passion I've realised is worldbuilding, but I want to stay within the games industry (writing the lore for open-world, exploration, or story games) or possibly going into other game lore (eg 40K or AoS lore, or DnD). My tutor told me he thinks there's a course for that at Falmouth (which is my top uni if I can go there). Do any students or alumni know of a course like that? It might be under a creative writing-based course, he didn't give me much info.

Hey, have a look at the Falmouth university website to see all the different undergraduate courses they have.

I am not sure which course your tutor was talking about, but since you mentioned worldbuilding and games: They have a bunch of different games related degrees, including Game Animation, Game Development, and Game Art. I think they also have one called Computing for Games. They do have a Creative Writing degree course at Falmouth as well, and an Illustration degree.

You have to look for yourself through their undergraduate degree section, and read through what each course involves. Good luck

They have a games writing course! it mixes creative writing modules with game development modules. the game dev modules involve working in teams to create games, so you would be expected to write stuff like dialogue and narrative, and then implement that into a game engine. i ended up switching to plain creative writing, as i feel like the games that we make on the course didn’t really allow for much storytelling due to their short length and the other specialisms not really giving much attention to the writers, but i’ve heard that as you begin to choose your own teams in later years you are able to get more involved. also personally i found i just enjoyed the traditional writing modules more, it’s up to personal taste. i will also say that the writers are also often left with jobs such as social media management and assisting with other specialisms because they are more likely to have a bit less to do than say the programmers. overall the people at falmouth are lovely and the lecturers and assistant lecturers are great, i just personally didn’t get on with the content
