So you're a fresher who doesn't enjoy excessive drinking

Anyone else in this club?
I'm kind of worried because I don't actually drink at all (I'm not boring, I'm a bit crazy anyway and I just don't like drinking) and so have never really bothered, I might drink some during freshers but probably not; and whilst I can go clubbing and partying it isn't my favourite passtime so I'm a little worried about freshers week going and me not really being involved/not having a good time.

Anyone else like this?

Haha every freshers event on the facebook page is clubbing and/or drinking and whilst I'm not teetotal I'm not much of a drinker or clubber (don't mind me a pub though, heh ) so I'm just happy I'm not alone. :colondollar:

ditto the both of you! glad to see we're all in the same boat, i don't drink for religious reasons as well as personal e.g. not liking the feeling out of control/disinhibited though for others to each their own.
i'm sure/hoping there'll be some events that won't all be drinking related? :s-smilie: though that's all i can see on the student union page right now...

I've noticed all the Facebook people joining the groups are the ones who like to party and drink, and not many others.
Although so far here and on Facebook I can't find anyone else doing my course, beginning to think I am the only sociable physicist!

I think the same way, I like a drink but I know my limits and slow down once I start getting tipsy. I have never been comatose drunk and I dont plan on being, it just seems like a way to ruin a perfectly good night.

yeah i noticed that too and well maybe don't worry about just physicists and there'll be people from other courses you'll meet too i'm sure? in passing, societies, etc? :/

I'm not planning on getting annihilated during freshers, though I can see it happening anyway.

Definitely won't be doing the 'drink 'til you drop' thing; been there, done that, suffered the hangovers

Oh no I didn't mean that, of course I'll meet other people and make friends that way, I just hoped to meet someone else on my course before hand, the way it's going I'm the only applicant lol!

ah right sorry! and again same! i'm the only one i know on the english course i applied for :/
though as for no drinking the more people post in this thread the better i feel about it ^^
Count me in. Well, I can drink for celebration. I'm just not much of a fan of the whole, "Oh, I'm bored. Let's go out and get drunk" attitude towards drinking.

That, and I hate beer.

I also seem to have an uncanny tendency towards throwing up just about every time I drink. Probably because I never have anything to eat beforehand.
I have to have medication for my epilepsy, which means no alcohol, I also hate the taste of alcohol (either too bitter or too sweet), the only stuff I can drink is Sangria but I doubt they will have that.

It annoys me though because I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't drink excessively.

I'm in this club, but I'm far from undergraduate.

There's nothing wrong with a pint of ale once a in a while with your friends though. You don't have to be a douchebag broski, just don't overdo it. Don't worry about Freshers week and trying to meet someone's expectations of what a fresher is supposed to be like. Just be yourself and do what you find fun.

What medication are you on?
I was told by one doctor that I wasn't to drink at all (although I still did :s-smilie:), and then my next doctor told me about a year later that I could, it just made the medicine less effective. Meh, mixed messages.
I don't drink either, I'm sure there will be plenty of other things to do, not to mention we get to view all the crazy societies that are on offer during the week :P

I used to drink but I've decided to stop because Everytime I do I end up being a complete knob and feel terrible the next morning (I think we all know what I mean).
I've put an end to drinking as I feel I just can't control it when I start! So far it's fine. I go to clubs/pubs/bars/whatever, dance, socialise, do everything that drunk people do (minus the spewing and other begative things of course ) without having a drink, and the best thing is I remember every bit! Went out tonight to celebrate and had a great time sober  so there are others out there who dont drink and still have a great social life. Dont worry! Freshers week will be one to REMEMBER!

Also forgot to mention I've only given up drinking 4 weeks ago. So it's not really run its course but so far so good!

Don't drink too, for religious reasons~
Is there a possibility that we might be coaxed or dragged into drinking?
Aahh~ I just realized I'm in the Queen Mary thread. Huhu
Well, pardon me for barging =)
