PGCE Applications 2016

Scroll to see replies

I had my first day in my second school doing work experience.

I've been more hands on with the pupils - all the teachers really encouraged me to go around doing some TAing so that's great.

I've been pretty nervous because obviously I still don't know anyone or my way around the school but I'm sure I'll warm up to it soon.

You can apply any time for PGCE so no need to panic , there is no November deadline (that im aware of)

Have you tried the School Experience Programme yet?
Completed my first day of experience at a primary school.
Not sure if someone has ready posted this but applications open Oct 27th

There ares still vacancies for this year! Of course you want the experience as soon as possible but dont panic if you cant get any right away.

EDIT: If anyone really wants experience keep an eye out for events on the DFE website. I wish I knew about these when I was applying

Hi,

I have just finished my MA in History and am planning to apply for 2016. Just had a mini panic attack when I had a look at the deadlines in UCAS. However, these September and October deadlines are for those who are planning to apply for 2015. Is that correct? I am guessing so from the current posts being two weeks old! If I am mistaken please let me know! I have managed to arrange one placement for class observation with my old school so far, but have not started on my personal statement or anything else yet due to being busy with the dissertation. I am planing to apply to teach history at a secondary school. Any advice would be very welcome!

Thank you!!!! As I said in the previous post, I saw the September and early October deadlines and panicked! Turns out these are all for 2015 I guess? How did you find out? Can you apply at any time of the year?

Hey, how was it?

I went in to meet the head and a woman in charge of volunteering/work experience at the school. Filled in my DBS etc so just waiting on that. Had a chat with the head etc, who was really nice and she is keen for my to come in with aims and what I'm hoping to learn, etc, which I think is great as she's already encouraging me to find out what I'm hoping to gain and be able to relate to from this experience  she said I can work with the male primary teacher who's the PE specialist as that's something I'm interested in

She also wants me to attend a safeguarding course for 3 hours next week, which is something she said lasts 3 years and ALL teachers etc are required to have it anyway! She said this is the most important thing a teacher has to do before they can even teach, so I think I should take up the offer, it would look good if I can mention that on my application surely?

As S27 said, November is when it opens, not closes. The PGCE I'm applying for still had places at Cambridge until late June. I don't know about other unis as they're less up front with their statistics but don't fret - there's time yet!

thanks yeah I just realised . I did a ucas search and noticed the courses I'm looking to apply to still have vacancies for 2015 so hopefully I should be okay for next year.
Anyone going to the University of Gloucestershire Teacher Training day? I am not applying there but it has PGCE interview masterclasses and a personal statement workshop
Fab, thanks for posting this!

Get Into Teaching haven't tweeted about it yet but if October 27th is when applications open this year then it's fair to say I'm terrified. Having an actual date makes it seem so much closer!
Hi,
I'm applying for Primary PGCE at uni of Gloucestershire, uni of Worcestershire and most likely UWE.
I have a total of 8 weeks experience from 2 different primary schools since May, hopefully this is enough!
I'm in the process of writing my personal statement, however I keep chopping and changing it, I'm struggling to fit everything into the 47 lines!

I'm planning on applying to Uni of Derby and Uni of Nottingham for the 3-7 routes. Looking into school direct as well as I think that route would suit me quite well. Have around 20 days of experience in a year 1-2 class from just before the summer and two weeks in reception from back in November.

Going in to where I volunteered at tomorrow to fill out paperwork to do some more time in the school. Because I want to do the 3-7 route, is it worth me getting more experience in the early years or do you think I should try and get some experience in juniors to support my application a bit more? Even though I know I definitely want to work in FS/KS1 only?
3rd day in my experience at my primary school and I get left alone in a classroom after PE with the guys changing and the girls upstairs with the teacher (uncomfortable being left alone) two students had a fight, one headbutted the other after he got hit by a rubber. Went and told the headteacher afterwards to cover myself
