Dunno where you're looking, all of the courses I've seen say 'UK Bachelors degree' with no mention of subject.

Sorry to jump in here but some unis at least do want or prefer a related undergrad degree to study a Masters in English Lit. I've searched for a few at random:

Durham: You will normally require an English or English-related Honours degree (at least a 2:1 or equivalent) from a recognised university.

Queen Mary: Most applicants will have an undergraduate degree with a first or good upper second class honours (or the equivalent) in English or such related fields as history, cultural studies and media studies.

Brunel: A UK first or second class (2:1) Honours degree or equivalent internationally recognised qualification in a related discipline.
