I am a senior nurse prescriber considering doing the GAMSAT. I would not be able to afford university myself to enter into graduate medicine, however, I was wondering if anyone knew whether doing GAMSAT would be enough to apply for the medicine apprenticeship they are opening in Sept 2024? This is a funded course which would be perfect…
I’m just trying to think of ways to do medicine realistically. I have no savings and no inheritance.
Hey there, thanks for posting a question in the Medicine forum.
The Medicine forum gets a high volume of questions being posted, and some of these are already answered by the resources and Megathreads that members of the community and volunteers have created. This is an automatic post which is designed to highlight these resources. Below is a list of threads and articles that could answer your question (you should be looking in the original post of the megathreads). If one of the below threads is a more relevant place to ask your question, please post a reply in that thread to ask your question. If your query is answered by one of the Megathreads or articles linked below, and you would like us to close this thread for you, please reply to this thread with just the words "thank you". You can get funding from SFE for a second degree in medicine if it is an accelerated 4 year GEM course. You do need to pay part of the first year tuition fees yourself but the rest are covered and you get a maintenance loan as well in the first year. Years 1-3 are funded by NHS bursary.

As @artful_lounger points out, you can get student finance in an accelerated 4-year course, with you only having to pay directly out of your own pocket about £3.5k.
But as for the apprenticeships... who knows? Virtually no details have been released about it so nobody knows what admissions test it'll have (or even if it'll be a standardised), but it probably won't be the GAMSAT because it's probably an overly-sadistic test for an apprenticeship. If you'd rather do the apprenticeship, you'll just have to sit tight for now and wait for further details to be released.
