Postgraduate maintenance loan?

Hi, I have a healthcare-related undergraduate (HONS) degree, however, I am looking at starting this course Psychology course code is F92 ( https://www.open.ac.uk/postgraduate/qualifications/f92 ).

I'm interested to know whether I will be eligible for another maintenance loan?

Thanks!

For postgrad degrees you can get a postgrad loan of up to 12.5k (well thats what it should be tbis year). The fees for this course are 7400 so that would leave 5100 for living costs so either savings, scholarships, parental money or working part time would have to cover the rest. Note that for postgrad you can only get one loan and then you get to decide what to do with it, you can take as much of the 12.5k as you want as its not means tested.

Hi @Sunflowerblue

It's good that you are considering pursuing a master's in psychology.

I would advise you to contact Student Finance to find out if you're eligible for a postgraduate loan.

Good luck!

It looks like it from the website as it talks about a total cost, prpbably worth emailing someone in the department or at the uni to check though just to be sure.

Hi,
A masters is slightly different than undergraduate in the sense that the money you have will be expected to cover your tuition fees, as well as any day to day costs you encounter. A lot of people save up prior to try and close the gap of this as the maximum amount you can receive from student finance tends to be around the 12,000 mark. The link to the website is here https://www.gov.uk/masters-loan where it talks about this in detail.
It's always good to look into if your current university does a graduate loyalty discount, if you're happy to stay there, as this can reduce how much you need to pay in tuition fees.
Hope this helps,
Meg 😊
