Because, unlike you, i sub mainly for TBR and other bits and frankly it's turned absolutely crap because of a few things that've happened.

I still get to keep my big flashy avatar and i can usually work out who's repped me anyway. There's little to no reason for me to carry on subbing basically.

TinyChat and banning debacle amongst some of the reasons? Ah well, going to miss the blue username.

I've never found TBR that entertaining, tbh. I really just read through it for the gossip, and arguments. :teeth:

:ditto:

I've never really wanted to post there. It just doesn't have a particularly appealing atmosphere. Lots of nice and friendly people there, of course but at the same time, a lot of bitching going on. Also a bit clique-y. Conversations are scattered a lot too. I prefer threads like these and society threads for 'general chat' and the rest of TSR to talk to people I've never talked to before.

Nothing to see here. :ninja:

Watching Kiss Kiss Bang Bang with Robert Downey Junior and Michelle Monaghan. A really enjoyable film, only heard about it a couple of weeks back in this thread.

Nobody talked to me when I was a sub :frown:

Anyway, looking for a film with a certain type of dialogue; Pulp Fiction / Reservoir Dogs / Snatch type.... hilarious and constantly quotable but not Airplane type humour.

Any suggestions :colondollar:

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels may just fit that requirement. Can't remember the film all that well.

*jumps into convo* I've never really liked TBR and the only single time I tried to contribute to the Shoutbox I was shouted out of it so meh to that... Stupid TSR subs who think they're the lad crew of the playground

I wouldn't say "lad crew" so much as anyone who isn't an established sub is treated to scepticism and there's a certain feeling among the longer serving subs that anyone must adhere to their 'rules'. That said, I suppose it's an inevitable result of people getting to know each other over a period of years; new people find it harder to stroll into the fold.

It'll still be blue, just a different shade. :pierre:

I've got to be honest, now is one of the most interesting period that I've witnessed. There's a whole influx of subs who're a younger "clique" but take things a lot less seriously to some extent. The friction caused is interesting reading, and it makes TBR seem less set in its ways, less people who regularly meet using it as MSN. Less cliquey and bitchy than it was now though. I made this point a few days back too; I don't think TBR is the best way to form an impression of someone, and especially not the shout box.

Still had a good read through of that thread about those bannings. :ninja:

Careful about discussing matters of TBR outside it. :naughty:

Seen it but thanks :p:. Definitely fit the requirement. Although I saw another Guy Ritchie film, Revolver I think... wtf was that.

Nice, will check out dodgeball.

Seen Jackie Brown as well :coma:. I saw Bad Romance a few back as well, which I think Tarantino wrote, it was hilarious in some parts, especially the "Sicilians" scene. Can't think of a film associated with Tarantino which didn't have amazing dialogue.

I saw Good Will Hunting for only the second time a few days ago as well, and I was blown away at how good the screenplay was, I don't think it registered the first time.

If it's a slick crime film you're after, consider Layer Cake or Trainspotting.

Haven't seen Layer Cake, will check it out. Trainspotting definitely fits the bill though.

I don't know what it is about these "slick crime film" they're always so amazing. Goodfellas, Donnie Brasco, Casino etc. all so quotable.

Trainspotting vs Shallow Grave?

I know, Tarantino just can't get it wrong can he? I mean Kill Bill wasn't brilliant but it just worked!

That's what happened with me and The Social Network - I loved it the first time but when I saw it again... just blew me away!

You could also consider Rock'n'Rolla, but it's nowhere near as good as Layer Cake. Layer Cake has less obvious quotes, but still a few, and is an excellent, slick, crime film.

Both excellent, but I idolise Trainspotting, so I'd have to go with that.

I'm going to let you down once more and tell you I thought Kill Bill was so, so, overrated and that I have no desire to watch The Social Network. :erm:

LOL you're not letting me down! The only time I'm ever disappointed with people with films is in not seeing really big classics that they should (like my dad claims to be a huge Spielberg fan but has never seen Schindler's List - what's that about?!?!?!) but even then I don't really care cos I've seen it and I love it!

Kill Bill is overrated, I'll agree with that actually :p: but The Social Network I'll defend to the death.

Sorkin forever

Also, one reason that superhero films often give way to crap sequels: they're forced to start with the franchise's most fearsome villain. Without doing so, they wouldn't get the money for the sequels. However, it means the whole series of films suffers from a decreasing calibre of villain. Leads to the Multiple Villain Rule: all sequels must contain at least two of the less-popular villains.

That's the major reason i'm desubbing and leaving TBR tbh.

Fair play to them it is now their box but i'm not paying every month to sit about listening to crappy jokes and even worse trolls. I found the box much more welcoming when i first subbed half a year a go before the 'nu-trolls' subbed.

Maybe that's just me though :dontknow:

I've never enjoyed or used the shout box all that much anyway. When I first subbed, some 14/15 months ago, it had people like reems in the box. This forced the entire dynamic to switch towards everyone siding what he or similar "respected member of the box said". In the end, I could speak fine to most people in the box, but it was always subject to certain people waving their opinion round as if it were fact.

That's without mentioning the annoying, loud, shouty types, of which they are still plenty. Their sole aim seems to be to shout anyone who disagrees down, which is pretty boring to watch as well as participate in.

I find the conflict between these so-called "nu-trolls" and established members a relatively interesting ongoing power struggle, if we can give it such a grandiose term. If it means that the box will be more accepting and less "I've been a sub two years, therefore I'm right", then that only sounds like a positive thing.

As I've said before, some people come off like dicks in the box but are actually fine and likeable, interesting, members elsewhere on the site. The problem with the shout box is just that it leads some people to have an inflated sense of self-worth and belief in their position as the pillar of the TSR community. The complaining that erupted when Ape won member of the year, as someone the subs didn't know, was quite amusing. It's just a mindset that exists in TBR, and is unsurprising, given most know each other irl and have done for some time.

True Romance :fyi:

I would say Woody Allen's Annie Hall is funny and quotable, but it isn't a crime film. I can't really think of other films that might fit your criteria at the moment...
