Hiii,

I'm going up to my second year at Medway this year.

In terms of accommodation; Merlin & Wolfe are cheaper, but the rooms are also smaller and your "en-suite" is actually more like a shower pod/wet room. Merlin also doesn't have sofa areas, but Wolfe does. Adelaide, Forte and Sunne are roomier and generally a bit nicer (bigger kitchen/seating area) It's not the ritz, but it's habitable like most student rooms.

The campus isn't too lively, but it is mixed/multi-cultural and it's all what you make of it really. Freshers week will be lively, with events at Coopers (campus pub). Some societies are more active than others, but you will probably find something you'll enjoy. If you didn't know, the campus is shared with Kent Uni and Canterbury Christchurch, so there are plenty of people to mingle with. We did get a few noise/party complaints though, so it's not dead either.

The campus has a shop (essentials) but you'll probably make better use of Tesco Express by Liberty Quays (which also has a Subway and Dominos) or the Co-op at Dockside. Speaking of which, Dockside also has an Odeon, Nandos, Pizza Hut, Subway, Dean's diner, Chinese buffet, Chimichanga, Zippers (cheaper version of Prezzo) and Burger King. It also has a Cadbury shop! And 'Ship and Trades', which is a really nice pub, but not student prices.

Nightlife in Medway may leave something to be desired for some, but again it's what you make of it and personally i've had some great nights out in Medway; it's all about the people! Monday nights for Tap n Tin (£1 drinks) which is a more unique style club; more rock/grunge downstairs, more chart stuff upstairs so it caters for most. Thursday nights for Casinos (£1.30 drinks) in Rochester, which has 3 rooms but most collect upstairs. There is also Krystals but i've only been there once (it was pretty good though)

Rochester also has a Wetherspoons and a few bars/pubs (try Rochester bar) and there's City Wall Karaoke bar. Gillingham has The Black Lion and some other pubs (Gillingham isn't the best of places though)

Of course, there is always Maidstone which has a good nightlife and is a taxi ride away (make sure there's at least 5 of you sharing though, if you want to make it easier on your pocket)

Shopping wise; there is Pentagon in Chatham which has your basics, but you're better off with a trip to Bluewater (20-30 min bus journey) or a 30 min train to Stratford Westfield (not too bad with a railcard, and it's a high speed service) but if you're not too into shopping then you'll probably be alright.

I don't know what course you are doing, but for Biomedical Science I find the teaching standard to be pretty good. Greenwich is climbing up the league tables so it can't be doing too badly! Car parking is something you'll have to apply for a permit for and pay for i'm afraid, as there is not a lot of parking off campus, but it's not too pricey for the year. (There is a spot opposite the back of the uni on the way to Gillingham, which isn't technically a road but people do park cars there, if you want to chance it. My flatmate did it for a term last year and she was okay, but be prepared to be blocked in a lot if you do).

I think that's pretty much it, it'll be a good experience if you want it to be so enjoy it

Hey just saw your post in the Greenwich 12/13 Starters. I'm on the Medway Campus too this year. I'll be studying Pharmacuetical Sciences. I've been up to the campus a few times this year and know a few people that have attended there who thoroughly enjoy it.

Ive been allocated a room in either Adelaide, Forte or Sunne too. So excited about starting what about you?

Haha that would be so cool of we shared some modules. Also I move in on the 15th can't wait and we found out the room and building upon arrival.

You said that you were international. Where do you come from?

Hello,

We do have accommodation at our Medway campus and all new students are guaranteed a place subject to meeting the conditions of the guarantee. You can read the conditions by follow the link below:
http://www2.gre.ac.uk/study/accommodation/halls/guarantee

The campus is very diverse and multi-cultural; you can see an exact breakdown on the planning and statistics section of our website:

http://www.gre.ac.uk/offices/pas/key_facts

This information will be updated in November to represent our latest intake.

The campus boasts a mix of social and leisure facilities, including a restaurant in Pembroke Building and the Venue café in Pilkington. Sports facilities include a sports hall, a gym with cardiovascular and weights rooms and outdoor tennis courts. The on-campus bar, Coopers, offers meals and traditional pub games. A general shop is also on campus.

Additionally there are car parks on campus, which are permit only and parking charges apply Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. An annual student permit costs £125.

I hope this helps

I'm a Medway Student - Just finished first year studying electronic engineering.

I lived in Adelaide house for the first year. It's actually not too bad a place to live. It's safe and cosy. Facilities are not bad and I do like the shower pod that are provided. Noise was never really too much a problem for me since all the parties were at Merlin and Wolfe houses XD

One thing I will say is that I had an internet issue for a very long time and was told that nothing can be done about it (some kind of server issue). It's fine if you're surfing the internet, or streaming movies (legally of course). But if you're a gamer like me - you're going to encounter problems.

In terms of shops and facilities around: @Tara:smile: has pretty much given you all the details there. One thing I will add is that you can always go to the town nearby (Gillingham) to do your shopping. I go to shop at Aldi - a complete lifesaver! All the cheapness! XD
Some people would argue that "it isn't safe" but I've been going there for a whole year and never encountered any problems. If you're really worried bring a friend to take all your stuff for you XD

Medway Dockyard is actually a really nice place to go. Only about 5-10 minutes walk away and has tonnes of shops, food places, ect - and very cheap!

So yeh. I guess that's it for me. Hope that helps you and anyone else who is about to go to Medway. Any questions feel free to reply or send me a PM
Guys need help as I need to work to support my study and I don't know much about London. My session will start in mid september.

Hi pintacoccus,

Sounds like you're either on the Greenwich Main Campus or at Avery Hill. Since this thread is to do with Medway campus (which is all the way in Kent), it's quite different to how the campuses are at London. You could create a new thread and see if anyone experienced can help you out.
What you should also do is go speak to the student union - they have staff members who can help you and point you in right directions.

In case you don't get the chance to meet anyone before the term starts, fresher's week is a great opportunity to meet people both outside and within your course. At least, that's how I met a load of my course friends.
Not everyone goes on the forums like us XD

Hi Tara,
I just wanted to ask after reading your reply, what train / train station would you get the train from to get to stratford? you said it would roughly take 30 mins.

Thanks, that's all.
Does anybody know what it's like to live in private accommodation around there? My reptiles will be coming with me so I know I won't be able to go into student halls.

Guys how are you all planning to pay for accommodation since it costs around £5000 a year and bursaries+student loan doesn't even cover the cost, let alone the food and cloths expenses?
Good Teaching standards?
The teaching standards for Sciences is not that great as teacher(lecturers) do not provide you with all the information you need for study, especially a lecturer named Dr. Mike Leach, he is one of the worst lecturers on earth as he will turn your study life to hell, he disregards your questions, picks on you, humiliates you, he has no respect for students, take it from an expert, he has thrown student phones out the window with no respect at all. We have had students stepped on by such lecturer and they have dropped out.

Greenwich for science is not the best. There's
