What's not libertarian about Singapore? Even their pre-uni education has elements of privatisation!

Same-sex male activity is illegal. I'll be dead before the UK becomes like Singapore.

Yeah! I love Australia; it's great. What's not to like? Laid back atmosphere, friendly people; its very European with a far eastern influence (half my family are Chinese and live there and love it).

VERY TRUE. I will give you that.
Although once that is overcome Australia really is heaven on Earth, and there are always ongoing attempts to incorporate Aborigines into the mainstream society/allow them to live their way of life.

Australia though is a 'melting pot' of cultures and that is something to be admired. People who go there on the whole become 'Australians', and thus the Australian culture itself is ever-changing, becoming influence by many many backgrounds to produce something unique; it is definitely a 'world country'

Their homophobia actually originated from the UK during the British Empire; both Buddhism and Hinduism aren't homophobic.

Anyway one could argue that Singapore is less racist than London/UK. They have several concepts I think the UK should copy.

- Multi-Ethnic Council: Not sure how to do something similar in Britain considering we have more than three ethnicities. But it ties in with my support for a larger role for HM Privy Council.

- Privatisations: I love how privatised Singapore is! It's not perfect, but it's a far superior culture in regards to healthcare and education; it just lacks a Socialised Saftey Net, which I covered for in my thread.

- Far better ethnic make-up than London. Singapore is essentially London without the chavs! No South Asian Muslims, No Blacks, No Chavs... bliss.

I think how the UK wins over Singapore is down to: freedoms, human rights, civil liberties, and sexual liberalism.

If Australia is so great how come you can't move in London without bumping into an Australian? I'm surprised there's anyone left over there.

Singapore. I want to see the state reduced and capitalism embraced.

Hopefully a tory government will aid at least the latter. We need a libertarian presence in HoC, though.

It's irrelevant who someone catches the flu from, what is relevant is whether they beat it or not. My point being, so what? Singapore is still homophobic and that is what matters, as we are currently living in 2015, so pointing the blame to where it originated from is irrelevant, a problem exists and it needs to be solved for Singapore to become truly equal.

I agree with your last sentence also.

The thing with multi-ethnic council; I agree with. But I also think "best person for the job should get it"; hence Parliament should proportionally reflect the ethnicities of the UK, thus a certain % of whites, certain % of blacks, certain % of Asians, all corresponding to the relevant % of the population as a whole?

Have you ever been?

May also be because wherever you're born doesn't restrict you to that country. You find people from all over the world in London; your comment is quite ignorant.

HoC is made up of 7% minorities, which reflects the percentage of the UK population

Then I guess that is fine and the UK is doing well then in terms of proportionally representing all backgrounds (obviously this is only reflects the HoC...)

Singapore, the world's most successful country.

According to you. Singapore fares no better than East Asian countries in matters of critical thinking and censorship.

Really? I have a lot of love for Singapore, I love their libertarian views, but I wouldn't call it the most successful country on earth.

It's a positive role model for the UK, albeit it's a bit small. Singapore is a model for London, not the UK.

The UK should look to Japan for inspiration. Automation and off-shoring, only accepting necessary talent and urgent asylum seekers; we can increase our disposable incomes, drive innovation, and develop poor countries!

Not to Japan, thanks. The UK does not need higher rates of suicide.

You need to understand racism/culturalism in the LGBT community. Some of it can be very pro-white. Even if there isn't that much slurring or racism, there can be a lot of cultural 'imperialism'.

I've heard of multicultural couples splitting up due to the white person being very condescending towards the "person from a more worse-off country", as if the white partner was 'saving' the minority from hardship.

But I support your anger at Singapore's government. The law goes against the human rights of the LGBT and should have already been repelled - it's basic human rights.

I don't think that's the right way to think about racism and multiculturalism. An All-Indian HoC shouldn't be seen as racist.

The thing with Singapore is that it has three very clear 'ethnic' populations: Chinese, Malay, and Tamil.

The UK has too many ethnic minorities. The only way to defend so many minorities is through an allotted judiciary that obliged to defend minorities. Adding reservations into the Privy Council* could also help, but I have no idea how to segregate ethnic minorities in the UK.

* I think the HoL should be merged into the Privy Council, and powers handed to the Monarchy.
I'm not sure why people are calling Singapore libertarian. It is anything but.... single party state with limited plurality, limits on the media, freedom of speech, etc.

I'd prefer it if we tried to emulate Sweden.
I don't think there's any one country i want to replicate but bits of a few.

I want the fiscal prudence of Norway.
I want the innovation of California.
I want the parental attitude to education of South Korea (70% get a private tutor even though the system is comparable in standards to ours).
I want the export focus of Germany.
I want the public services of Singapore.
I want the taxation of Hong Kong.
I want the pension system of Australia.

Switzerland is the perfect model. Make ourselves into a neutral country.

It is time to face the facts, we are no longer a major world power and we do not need to be. Just look at the swiss, they are not involved in middle east and no terrorists bother going there.

Low taxation and relatively strong economy. Yes that will reduce our influence in the world stage but if by influence you mean following the US to dash out "freedom", which in return you get nothing but radicalised fanatics,

I'd rather live a quiet and peaceful life,
South Korea.
