Upper triangular matrices

I have to prove that an upper triangular matrix remains upper triangular when multiplied by a scalar. I know this is obvious but I don't know how to prove this using the notation aij.

Help please

How would you describe an upper triangular matrix, in terms of ai,ja_{i,j} ?

If you can see that, I suspect you may then be able to answer the original question yourself.
