WJEC Sociology GCSE Official Thread Unit 1 16th May 2016

I was surprised that I haven't seen this already, so I thought I'd make the official thread for the GCSE WJEC Sociology 2016.

How did Unit 1 go? Talk freely about any qualms you may have, as well as anything which might make you feel better if you get it out in the open!

Oh it was horrendous. I saw culture and thought I was gonna have a good paper but some of the questions were so confusing. I wrote agencies of social control and social control as the same thing and appear to have messed that one up. The 10 and 20 markers were very annoying😂 There was a question close to the end on research methods and I think I put participant observation but I don't have my hopes up😂

Yes I have a similar problem! Was that the one about "Define social control", and then straight after it said "Give, with an example, an agent of social control" or something?

Also, out of pure interest, which questions did you do for section B?
I did family, and I am deeply annoyed that I only got 1/4 paragraphs done on the 20 marker! Grr!
I did family and did single parenthood house husband gay families and something else I have forgotten

I found the paper really easy. The 20 mark question threw me off a bit and also the question about defining social behaviour but overall it went really well. What points did people put for family (20 marks)?
For the 20 marker my six points were:
-Cohabitation and how it is promoting secularisation which is negative as religion is part of british identity
-Single parent families and the stereotypes they are associate with e.g Benefits etc
-Same sex couples and how the New Right would state they are negative as they believe children need two heterosexual parents to teach them gender roes and to socialise them properly(I tied this in with functionalism)
-The breakdown of the traditional nuclear family
-Rise in beanpole families because of medicinal advancement/Beanpole families/Strain on government e.g NHS and pensions therefore pension age is increasing/More tax required
-Childless couples/effect on population

I did the exact same! I'm very annoyed but I did unit 2 today (I retook unit 1) and I think it went really well.

You are so lucky to have retaken unit 1!

But I loved Paper 2- seeing "describe moral panic" made me also faint with joy.

Unfortunately, I only "semi" finished it- I did it, but instead of doing 4 paragraphs for the 20 marker, I did 2 HIGHLY EXPLAINED paragraphs using opposite opinions; could this be an okay way of doing it, do you think?
