I am with edexcel and for Jekyll and Hyde our exam is split into question A and question B. Question A is where you are given an extract and have to talk about how a particular theme/character is presented in the extract. Question B is talking about how a theme/character is presented in the rest of the novella.
For question A examiners are looking for :
Tight focus on subject terminology
Just talking about the extract
Effect - why did he do this?
Stevenson's purpose
Quotes from the extract to support your ideas
Consider structure from start to end
For question B:
Do not talk about the extract
Stevenson's purpose
Refer to points across the whole novella
Embeded quotes to back up your ideas
Detached/critical tone
I don't know if this will help but i'm guessing the things they are looking for in AQA and Edexcel will be quite similar.
