Hi, im not really up to date with whats good or not, but is this a good deal:

TOSHIBA A200-1BW LAPTOP - TOSHIBA A200-1BW INTEL CORE 2 DUO T5500 PROCESSOR 1.66GHz LAPTOP

Vista Home Ultimate 2GB RAM 200GB HDD 15.4''Widescreen
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5500
1.66GHz, 667MHz FSB, 2MB Cache
Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate
2GB Memory
200GB Hard Drive
Dual Layer DVD ReWriter MultiDrive
15.4" HD BrightView Widescreen Display

£899.99

I dont need anything really fancy although i would like to be able to play some games. My budget is around £1000. Also would anyone be able to recommend some good desktops for that kinda price? Although a laptop would be easier, as i may want to take it to lectures and home during the holidays, im not completely ruling out desktops.

Cheers

I'm looking to upgrade my desktop. I'm limited to a socket 939 CPU and AGP graphics card.

So I was looking at a 7950GT 256MB graphics card and AMD X2 4200+.
But is it worth me trying to find the 512MB version of that graphics card? Or would a 1950Pro be a better choice (though I'm reluctant to mod my box in order to fit the card in it). It has to be a single slot one.

that's a pretty good choice of parts, IMO. the x1950pro is a good card but if you can't just fit it right in, i would say it' not worth the effort to fit it.
I was thinking of getting the Samsung Q45, has anyone got any experience with these?
hey,

i want a usb port on the front of my pc , how do i go about it? Would it be possible to replace my floppy disk drive with these?

thanks

Yep, you can get 3.5" thingies which replace your floppy drive and plug into a spare USB header on your motherboard.

Sounds very top end, although I personally wouldn't stripe using RAID 0, i'd just opt for a single 500gb, also, i'm not sure £1200 represents great value for money. I just did a quick tally in my head and came up with about £950 (assuming the software is legal)

Where were you thinking of getting it from?
What will you be using it for?

If they say "browsing the web and MSN", I'm going to cry.

I'll be using it at university but I'm also a bit of a gamer and use lots of applications at the same time hence I wanted a decent processor and RAM - I figure its much easier to upgrade things like graphics cards later. So YES I’ll be word processing! but a few other things too and I’d like it to last a loooooong time.

I'm getting it from directly from Dell, I don't have a great deal of choice in it since I'm not footing the whole bill but I’m certainly contributing :P

How did you get the figure of £900 ish? Is that building it yourself - I don't think I'm quite up to that!

Is this a decent laptop for £500, I would be using it for internet and WoW:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T5200 1.6GHz
RAM: 1024MB DDR2 - Low Cost Double Memory Offer
Hard Drive: 120GB
Screen: 15.4" TFT
Optical Drive: DVDRW to read and write CDs and DVDs
Graphics: NVidia GeForce Go7300 128MB
Wireless LAN: 802.11a/b/g - Call for advice on Wireless Networking
Bluetooth: Bluetooth Enabled
Warranty: 1 Year
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Basic Edition
Fast Ethernet 10/100
4-in-1 Flash Memory Card Reader
Fingerprint Reader

That Spec looks very good for the price!

£1200 is very expensive for a dell PC.

You might want to go to 2gb of Ram, as its very unlikely youll make use of 4gb for a while yet, especially for how much dell charge for Ram.

Also it might be worth checking the price difference between the e6600 and the e6700, it may be a lot of money for minimal performance gains.

That is if money is an issue, if not ill shut up!:p:

im sure if you call dell they would knock a chunk off that price
You might be able to save money by not getting MS office from Dell - I think Office 2003 is much better than 2007 - and you'll save quite a bit of money, especially if you have an NUS card (there's a site on the offers section of the NUSonline website that does Office 2003 PRO for about £70)...just a suggestion.
