Three events A, B and C are defined in the sample space S. The Events A and B are mutually exclusive and A and C are independent.

a) Draw a Venn diagram to illustrate the relationship between the 3 events and the sample space.

Given that P(A)=0.2, P(B)=0.4, and P(A U B)=0.7, find
b) P(A|C)
c) P(A U B)
d) P(C)

A misprint I think ?

They have given you the answer to the question. If you have copied the question correctly then the question itself contains an error.

There is no point in telling you P(AuB)=0.7 and then asking you what P(AuB) equals

oo I like your exam board. Some sort of comprehension it seems

But seriously, it cant be 0.7, if P(A) = 0.2 and P(B) = 0.4

the union would be 0.2 + 0.4 - 0 (as they are mutually exclusive) ie. 0.6.
