Maths question

The specification for the rectangular car park states that the length xm is to be 5m more than the breadth. The perimeter of the carpark is to be greater than 32m.

a) form a linear inequality in x

The area of the car park is to be less than 104m^2

b) form a quadratic inequality in x

c) by solving the your of inequalities, determine the set of possible values of x

I dont understand how c is 10 and 1/2 < x < 13

I got -8 < x < 13

Your method is correct but you know that x>0 (I hope)

Then use the perimeter bit for the 10.5

x is a length, try and think through the idea of having a length of -8m

Ahh right, but i dont know how it is 10 and a half?

This is the area: (x+8)(x-13)< 0
This is the perimeter: 4x-42>0

That do i do to get 10 and a half?

You seem to be struggling with some very basic concepts ... do you have a teacher that you can discuss these with

you have 4x-42>0

I do not see why you cannot solve that to get x>10.5

Linear inequality is much easier than quadratic inequality
