Accepted to Foundation '14 at CSM, thinking about deferring it to '15... Suggestions?

Hi guys! I'm an international student from Taiwan!
I applied for the Foundation course in Art & Design at Central Saint Martins in August 2013. (Every year in certain months UAL sends professors overseas to review portfolios and interview applicants)
I got accepted but I'm not so sure whether to take the September 2014 offer...
You see, because of the curriculum in my high school and a hell lot of school work, I had very little time to study and practice Art. :frown: Actually, I had to start taking Art lessons after school in March last year to build up my portfolio, or else it would've been too late.
Eventually, I came up with some pencil sketches, water colour paintings, some fashion design pieces and several photographs. Besides that I also recorded my process in making them on a sketchbook. The interviewer was from London College of Fashion and she seemed to like my works, so she gave me the offer.
Still, I'm in doubt whether I have the ability to compete with hundreds of talented and skilled students (probably studied Art for years!) from all over the world, since the environment in CSM is highly competitive and demanding.

Therefore I wish someone here could give me some advice... :s-smilie:
Do you think I should defer my place to 2015 and spend a whole year practising? Or do you think that it's only a Foundation Degree and that if I got accepted I should have what it takes to finish the course?

Thanks!

Hi I am not the best person here to give advice but I felt that your post deserved to be replied to.
you are very lucky to have been offered a place at CSM and if I am sure that you have the required skills to finish the course because it is difficult to get on any course there.
I am applying to CSM too but my portfolio is basically empty, and I am afraid I wont be accepted. but this place looks like a kingdom for art, so my advice would be to accept the offer.
The foundation course is exactly the practice you need and you should not defer your entry.

I hope that helps you in making the right decision for yourself

Cheers

Hello there,
I am the Foundation student now in CSM and also from Taiwan :-D!
Congratulate.
for me, I think it depends on what course you do want to apply for BA, and are you in diagnostic group or specialised group?
if you are trying to apply something related to fashion, my advise will be: defer it and get yourself ready.
If not, you can just take the course this year.

Cause we will be specialise during the course and it is really hard to get into the fashion specialised group.
if you didn't get into the group related to what you want to apply, you will need to take another effort to your portfolio related to it.
it will be the hard time cause you still have to finish every project in your group.

Hi, I am a student who got offered from diagnostic in Foundation. (2014 entry)
I just want to know that how about Jewellery Design at CSM:smile: because I would like to study Jewellery in the future. Is it competitive? I mean jewellery pathway and jewellery design(BA). I think many people want to get into Fashion pathway and fashion BA rather than jewellery. Please let me know.

Thanks. Xx

Hello, there,
haha I am right in the Jewellery pathway :-O!
Is not really difficult to get into jewellery group.
I will advice that you can come this year.
However, it is still competitive to get into Jewellery BA in CSM from the jewellery foundation course.
still need to work hard.
this year, only few international students out of 60 can get the offer from CSM jewellery BA.
(I can't remember the right number bur definitely under 10.)
