    Post some working then. If you can't LaTex it, take great care with the brackets, so it's clear what you mean.

    It does work out to the given answer.

    I can't get Latex to work on Ubuntu, despite much time trying

    I can get the working down to something like:



    I can put the powers together a bit more, but cannot get a simple fraction which might do it.

    collect the powers of x into the denominator, the another powers into the numerator

    So you can read down the exponent of x which is equal 3
