    Do you think the licence fee should be scrapped & the BBC should have to raise its own funds like all the other TV channels e.g. advertising etc

    As I see it, the issue most people have is not with the licence fee itself but with the fact that it's so closely associated with one particular organization. If the licence fee were renamed to something else, such as the Electromagnetic Bandwidth Usage Surcharge, and the BBC were funded from general taxation rather than the licence fee specifically, I doubt anywhere near as many people would have objections.

    There are all sorts of non-essential educational and recreational schemes which are funded mainly by the state, like libraries, national parks, sporting events and museums, so why not a national broadcaster?
