Graduated uni with a maths degree, can't seem to get an accounting job.

I graduated uni with a 2:2 in mathematics last summer, and have been looking for and applying to trainee accountancy positions ever since and I haven't even had so much as an interview. My plan has been to look at positions that provide ACCA or AAT training as I cannot afford them myself, and understand that you need 3 years of work experience to complete them.

I'm worried about paying for them myself, I'm not sure adding that I'm studying the qualifications on my CV is going to help much as I've been so unsuccessful recently and if I can't get the experience then the money and time spent well have been in vein.

I can't even seem to get low level finance or administration related jobs and I'm really not sure what I'm doing wrong and am getting very disheartened.

I've been working a cashier job that barely pays rent, but think I might have to just go for it and start funidng AAT myself, what do people think?
