Need an opinion on this question:

I got this wrong because I thought it meant there are 2 children. But it turns out there 3 children. Does anyone think this is worded a little weirdly?

I think I would have read it as 3, but I can see how you would think otherwise. I believe, grammatically, it implies that there are 3 children.

Yes, it is 3 children as it mentions two aged 12 AND a 7 year old
