chemistry ligands

does anyone know how [Co(H20)6]2+ is substituted by HCl to [CoCl4]2-.
I don't understand why 4 Cl- are substituted as Co has a charge of 2+? thanks

Only 4 are substituted because Cl- ions are bigger than H2O ligands.
