An Inspector calls

write as a GCSE student, In what ways are the characters of sheila and eric birling important in this play
Sheila and Eric both show their responsibility for Eva smith's death towards the end and Sheila shows support for socialism towards the end. Sheila is a feminine symbol throughout the play when subverts patriarchal norms and ignores her mother and her words of how she should be when she uses slang-terms which is unreputable and hands her engagement ring back to Gerald without hesitation. She also stops her father from involving when she speaks. I would also typically focus on Sheila's change throughout the play. Sheila and Eric are Younger generation Vs Older generation, focus on that too.Good Luck!
