Mechanics Question Help

Hey guys, how do I know the friction force is acting upwards? Is it because the crate is trying to move down? Initially I thought the friction force opposed force F. Thanks guysimage.jpgimage.jpg

Friction always opposes the direction of motion. The crate is held at rest by a force acting upwards meaning it’s on the point of moving down.

Ok thanks. So this is the case regardless of force F?
