why would 1-chloropropane give no visible change with an aqueous solution of silver nitrate? I thought it would give white ppt? Is it something to do with the lack of polarity of the other bonds in the compound?? I have no clue
thanks, but in the question I got this form, an acyl chloride gave a white ppt under the same condition, the bond enthalpy might be slightly different due to different compounds but surely they would be similar? is it because the oxygen is electron withdrawing so it weakens the C-Cl bond in that so white ppt can form but in the chloropropane the surrounding bonds are non polar so doesn't experience weakening of C-Cl bonds?
