Good "critical writing" book for Uni Year 1?

My daughter is a few weeks in to her first term at Uni and got back her first assignment today - the feedback says that there is "too much description and not enough critique"

Anyone point me towards a book that helped them with this?

Reading journal articles was the single biggest help to me for this, and learning structures of arguments so that it is clearer on how to attack thrm.

Pages like this can be useful (especially the 'evaluating arguments' part, and the university library will almost certainly run workshops or info sessions on similar:
