How to prepare for beginners' language interviews??
Does anyone know how to prepare for beginners' modern language interviews? How much would I need to know about the culture and history of the country? I'm more interested in the development of the language (because I'm applying for Latin and Italian), but I didn't write about this much in my PS - only about poetry, Machiavelli, and translation.
Also, I included an author Umberto Eco and how I read one of his books to better understand the mechanics of translation but I don't know an awful lot about the man himself, and it seems the Italian tutor at the Oxford college who's interviewing me is an expert in Eco. Do I need to research him further?
