Hey there, thanks for posting a question in the Medicine forum.

I’m a gateway student now in year 3 of medicine. My tips to get in are do a lot of work experience, and try both UCAT and bmat as Leeds have a gateway and are bmat. The better you score the better the chance so use online resources to practise. Find out about interviews for places you want to apply and get practise. You need to also show the university you can handle a heavy workload and be organised.

But my honest opinion, is make sure you have a good backup, don’t be doing it for money, family or personal pride. Make sure you’re genuinely interested. Med school can definitely make you question if you can even be bothered doing it. You can acquire a lot of debt even if working unless you family is well off. Also you don’t earn the money everyone assumes till you’re 30+ unless you take certain pathways. You studying for the rest of your career, very few roles with a good work life balance. Genuinely ask any medics or doctor s you know on their opinions to form your own, some love the job but some definitely wish they were doing something else.
