can i still get into med 2023 entry??

so basically i was rejected from all the med schools I applied to and i am hoping i can get into med school through clearing. to do this obvs i have to get good a level grades. this is the problem i think i may have not done too well in chem and psychology. i think i got an A* in biology as i never got less than an a in every mock i did for bio. but i think i may have got B's in chem and Pysch. do you think i could get into med school through clearing (assuming there are clearing spaces) with A*BB. my cousin was in the same position as me and with no med school offers and she got AAB in her alevels and got into plymouth for med and is going to 5th yr in sept.
any advice is greatly appreciated!

I am afraid I think it is unlikely that you would get into medicine with those grades through clearing.

The biggest hurdle will be the lack of clearing places. So many unis will draw on their previously interviewed candidates on waiting lists before going into clearing.

And if they do go into clearing are likely to be mobbed by people with full As or A* as there seem to be a fair few people who didnt get an offer this year.

Never say never, but I think it wouldnt be wise to put too much hope on it.

Your cousin did well to get a clearing space - unfortunately that was a few years ago, and before the grade inflation that we had around Covid and advent of heavily used waitlists.

If you are determined on medicine, it may mean another cycle for you. Lots of people seem to do well after a productive gap year.

Good luck.

Hi,

Congratulations on completing your A levels & even sitting the medical entrance exams. I recently got into medicine after completing my degree in Chemistry and I’d say that medicine is highly unlikely to have many spaces this year. And if they did, it would likely not be for grades like A* B B. More so 3 As, they don’t lower the grades.

The year your cousin got into med was actually one of the lowest scoring A level cohorts in the last 20 years at least, so competition against high grades wasn’t as populous. But if things don’t go your way, I’d deffo recommend taking a gap year and solidifying your entrance exam scores and interview skills, alongside your A levels. look at what could be improved in your study techniques and preparation and make a change. Without change, it’s likely you will end up with the same result.

if medicine is truly what you want to do. You will get there in the end, it’s only a matter of time.

you got this
