Gap year Medicine

What are the chances of getting into medicine after a gap year, into the likes of kings or oxford universities?

The chances of getting into medicine are pretty low, whatever. A gap year does not affect that
I took a gap year this year and got into kings for medicine

Getting into medicine is a challenge whenever you apply.

Equally, taking a gap year is pretty common.

There may be some thoughts on the specific med schools you mention on the gap year stories threads. But it is inspirational even if it doesnt.
Read the spoiler stories on the first page of the following thread.

https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7209108

Also join the resit retake gap year thread for support and encouragement.

https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7330165

Also do a bit of reflection both on this years process and your wex to help with interviews.

I also think that an individuals changes of being successful in a first application or a gap year application are going to be much higher if they apply strategically based on thier UCAT and other application data eg grades and subjects (ask on the megathread when you have your UCAT results) rather then narrowing down on just one or two med schools in advance

Good luck.

Yh Sure my Stats were 2940 band 1 Ucat didnt do BMAT. 3A* A-level. and 9999998887 for GCSE. In my gap year i had a job unrelated to medicine in something i enjoyed - but you can always talk abt it in interviews and I also did some volunteering in hospital. And now I'm basically just relaxing until uni starts

The only difference the grades made were that they made the offer unconditional but didn't make a difference to my chances of an offer (A-level grades that is) The UCAT is v important for getting to interview but once ur at interview its all art the performance there

Some med programmes have a minimum grade requirement prior to the resit so you will have to research your options.

Hey guys ,
My ucat and bmat went horribly and i am mentally prepared for four pre interview rejections, my fifth choice is biomed but i am honestly not interested in studying it. I am planning to take a gap year and re apply , could i have some advice on the whole process , like if you still apply through college, who does your references , how to improve your personal statement etc. i also have an extenuating circumstances letter for my gcses , i have an 88877765 which was achieved with 2 weeks of formal schooling in the uk and i received no formal education for year prior to this , can i re use this letter?
