Physician Associate studies to Medicine

Hi all,

I have but a few months left until I complete my Physician Associate studies MSc however have been contemplating a career as a Doctor. This mainly stems from the idea that I have strongly considered military medicine and unfortunately found there is no role for PAs in the UK military however the US military does have a role. Combined with the lack of regulation and restriction to work only in the UK - with the exception of now working in New Zealand but only after 5 years of work, and with not being sure when regulation by GMC will be set I have had my doubts.

Prior to starting the course I had completed extensive amounts of research and was fully aware of the restrictions however had hope with the thoughts of pending regulation. However regulation which had originally been set to take place pre-pandemic by GMC just seems to be getting pushed back further. I have also considered gaining a Masters in medical / clinical education because in my later years I would love to interact with students in Medicine and aid in facilitating their learning whether its PA or medical students.

I am extremely eager to spend my 20s and early 30s doing something invigorating with my life and definetly would love for that to be in the medical field, I am just no longer sure whether it will be worth pursuing this as a PA or a Doctor?

If there are any PAs that can give me ideas on what they have done with their degree vice versa with Doctors rather than the traditional pathways of working in the NHS it would be strongly appreciated!

I am aware applications for Medicine will be due shortly so would like to have thought things over thoroughly prior to this.

Any help would be much appreciated
