Edexcel Further and Pure Mathematics Best Combination

My results are:
Core Mathematics 1 - 94/100
Core Mathematics 2 - 97/100
Core Mathematics 3 - 88/100
Core Mathematics 4 - 63/100
Mechanics 1 - 100/100
Statistics 1 - 83/100
Further Pure 1 - 90/100
Further Pure 2 - 76/100
Further Pure 3 - 66/100
Statistics 2 - 80/100
Statistics 3 - 89/100
Statistics 4 - 54/100 <-- I promise there was something problematic with this paper ( June 2013 if you want to check it out)

I know I have some low grades, but I am willing to study hard to achieve even 90 to each of those papers.

What would be the best combination for Pure and Further Mathematics to achieve A on both? Is it possible?

Is it possible that I get an A* to Pure mathematics, if I resit one or more units that are low?

Thanks in advance for your answers

You can get two A's if you cash them like this

Pure Maths - C1, C2, C3, C4, FP1, FP3 - 498/600 UMS

Further Maths - FP2, M1, S1-4 - 482/600 UMS

Hope this helps

To get the A* in Pure Maths you need to resit C4 and get 92/100 UMS and you will need to gain 25 UMS marks between FP2, S2 or S3 to gain an A* in Further as you need an 80% average across all six and a 90% average across you're best three that are a module with a number higher than 1 which is why you're 100/100 in M1 doesn't help toward the A*

I do not believe that is an accepted set of units for FM as it requires FP1

As does Pure Mathematics though?

Yes, I do not believe that you can take Pure + FM

So OP do you mean simply normal maths and further maths as opposed to pure and further?

Ok, so for Edexcel Maths you need C1-4 and either 2 applied unit 1s or an applied unit 1 and the same unit 2.
In your case, this means in your normal maths, you can have M1 and S1 or S1 and S2 (as well as c1-4) Neither of these choices will affect your Maths grade (both give you an A) or your Further Maths grade (Both B, but with M1 in F maths, you are only 5 UMS from an A)

In short, you have an A and a B
You need to resit C4 and get 92+ to get the A* in normal maths
And you would need to resit FP2 and FP3 to get the A* in Further Maths, if you get 181 UMS between them.

Maths: C1,2,3,4 + S3,4 = 485 UMS (A)
FMaths: FP1,2,3 + M1 + S1,2 = 495 UMS (A)

explanation:

Spoiler

This satisfies the requirements for single Maths (C1-4 + 2 applied) and Further Maths (FP1 + FP2 OR 3 + 4 extra modules that aren't being used for anything else). Unfortunately dingo's suggestion isn't allowed, because of TenofThem's reason.

So well done, you got 2A's (same as me).

S3 +S4 is not an allowed combination for single 'Maths'

As Alduin has already said, From the units listed in the original question, the only possible options are S1 + S2 or S1 + M1

With what you said, I get this combination:
Pure
C1 94/100
C2 97 100
C3 88/100
C4 63/100
S1 83/100
S2 80/100
505/600 - A

Further
FP1 90/100
FP2 76/100
FP3 66/100
M1 100/100
S3 89/100
S4 54/100
475/600

What are the actual requirements to get a A* in Pure and A* in Further?
I do need to have at least 540/600 right? (applies to both)

If I resit C4, in order to have at least 540/600, I need to get a 95+, not 92+. How did you end up with 92+?

If I resit FP2 and FP3 and get a total of 181, it means that I will end up with 514/600, how am I getting an A*?

Please explain your thoughts so I can understand how this works better.

Thanks for all your replies.

Your first A level is just Maths not Pure Maths (which is a different A level).
To achieve an A* in maths you need 480 UMS that must include at least 180 UMS from C3+C4. You could achieve that with 92 UMS from C4 and you could also resit C3 to improve your chances.

Further Maths requires a minimum 480 total UMS that must include 270 UMS from your best 3 A2 units. A2 units that could provide this are FP2, FP3, S3, S4 or even S2 if you switch M1 into Maths.

Thank you. Well, I guess I should resit C4 and S4 now right? I am in my final year now in school and I will have much more studying to do. I will also have Physics(resit), so I am trying to limit my resits. C4(92+ for A* in Maths) and S4 (59+ for A in FM). Am I correct?
