The Student Room Group

South East gets a bit of water. National Emergency,

Conveniently forgetting that past floods in the north were much more severe and damaging, without Cobra meetings and 24 hour rolling news coverage.

Also as an interesting aside to this startling light on the imbalance in this country between the London/south-east and everywhere else, anyone else appreciating the irony of living in a house on a feature dubbed quite unambiguously a flood plain in a notoriously wet country and then wondering why their dog is swimming around the living-room?

With my irreverent attitude now concluded though, hope people can recover from this reasonably quickly, and not too many folks get hurt.

Makes sense to be worried when your most valuable, economically-adding areas are in danger. Many would call the north, 'the parasites'.

It's because the South is where all the important people live...
I hope London sinks with all the vermin

It is because anything worth saving is in the south. If the north floods it won't affect anyone or anything important, floods in (and the surrounding areas of) London is massively important because that is where the money that is earned to pay for your council houses and chronic laziness (but there's no jobs boo hoo!) comes from.

Doesn't the South generate most of the income in this country and you lot just leech off benefits and sip on Lambrini all day?

Doesnt the South get most of its water supplies and oil supplies From up North?
Ever wondered why England Dont want Scotland having independance?... Scotland bring a lot into the Brittish economy with the Water and oil. Wonder what would happen to the English economy without these resources being on tap to them? Oh yeah, England will increase all your taxes to cover the extra costs, because of course they're not taking enough of that already.

Your England, really isnt all that great. They are for the rich.
Scotland are for the people.
:lolwut:

Completely the other way around, if even London became a seperate country the rest of England would still not generate as much as it, and would be tied in terms of generated wealth between Slovenia and Greece.

To be honest, as far as any reports indicate it's been the worst flooding that has ever happened on records. If that's not the case then it's questionable, but at the moment it's caused devastation and the politicians really really want those votes. There has been plenty on the hurricanes that have been hitting the north and I've not really heard much about the flooding other than 'look boris wore this brand of wellies'.

HS2, your new London airport, Tube, public parks, unemployed... the list is not exhaustive.

I'm pretty sure Northerners taxes paid for that. Sponger parasites, nothing more.

Your taxes are most likely a pittance compared to what we pay. Plus 90% of the tourists come to England to see the South. With massive rates of unemployment in the North, how can you call us spongers?

Tell you what, we'll draw a line just below Birmingham and you can be your own country. We'll see who comes off worse?

And heres your evidence. -
We’ll take those oil and gas reserves, thanks. The bulk of the UK’s oil and gas reserves are in Scottish territory, and an independent Scotland would claim control of those highly lucrative resources. Exports of oil and gas from Scotland were worth nearly $50 billion last year.
The white paper claims that an independent Scotland wouldn’t need to rely on energy revenues anyway. “Scotland’s economic output per head, even without oil and gas, is virtually the same as the UK as a whole. So oil and gas is a bonus,” it states.
Northerners call me a Southerner, Southerners call me a Northerner. What am I?

Hint: My region is ignored by both and lumped in with the other.

Ok then, provide some tangible proof that Southerners are all sponging off your taxes?

Or try to provide evidence to counter my claim that the South actually makes most of the money for the country, with the North being much more highly unemployed, wingey bastards?

It's like small man syndrome with you monkeys.

Here's all your evidence.

You do realise this country is a service economy and heavily reliant on business? The income generated by Scotland's gas reserves still doesn't compare to net revenue of that in the South. Ironically if Scotland gains independence as it's been repeatedly warned, it will suffer economically, not the rest of the UK.

Ok, Birmingham makes the cut. In fact, we'll draw the line above Leicester, so I can still go see the best team in the World play.

London and the south east account for a lot but it's below 50% of output i believe so 'most' is a stretch unless you start including areas with a comparable level of wealth to the rest of England including the north. Scotland actually is the third richest region per capita and has lower unemployment than England, that's in the north.

If one excludes the north east then all regions are between 5.3% and 8.4% with geographic spread though the two lowest are the south east and east of England.

Rambling a bit anyway but my point is that no region bar possibly the north east is a net drain on the state and all have areas which subsidise others (Leeds subsidies Bradford in effect).

Stay out of it Scotland! This doesn't concern you!!

Southern?

In all seriousness, the midlands generate all of the autarkic wealth in the country, and with current long term economic policies they're seeing a steady growth when the more malleable international markets are suffering. Living in Manchester most people seem to think the Midlands are a good place for a job at the moment, though thinking about it they don't get alot of weather news like the north and south do

Not sure if misreading this or something, but sounds way out. Unless referring to the Scilly isles or figures from pre 2004, this is either grossly inaccurate or a typo.

So what your saying is... The South aren't just spongers of the North?

And that the only drain on resources are the North East... Which is in the North?

I wonder why England dont want us too use their pound?
For
one) its 'Striling' which is Scottish
two) We dont use the same printed notes as you do in England
three) Our notes arent accepted in most shops, pubs, bars, casino's etc in England
So what are they trying to achieve by 'taking' the pound from us?
I think we claim more rights to the notes we use than England. We dont use the queens head because we are not a Monarch, Oh wait... England are just bitter about Scotlands independance because they know it wont do any good for the English economy, so they're trying to panic scare us, so they can carry on taking our tax money.
