Introduction to nests

Hi,

I've just read Chapter 7 of Alice in Numberland by Baylis and Haggarty, it's called "Nests - in which the rationals give birth to the reals and the scene is set for arithmetic in R\mathbb{R}". Unfortunately, I could follow barely any of this chapter - I've tried to find an introduction to nests online but I can't really find anything. Does anyone know a good resource for this?

Thank you

I'm not sure if it's specifically related to nests, but there are some methods to construct the set of real numbers from the rational ones (I believe one involves Dedekind cuts, not too sure about the details though)

You might find these links to be interesting reading.
