cool. uni next year is going to be soo hard because i dont drink because i like to be in control and i am drunk on life anyway
it wont be hard, in fact the reality of uni is that you meet new people and just develop yourself as a person. yesh many people will drink but you will find most people wont. im also pretty much drunk on life too.
I think universities should be held accountable for some of the behaviour, as well as local clubs and bars. Alcohol promotion is shoved down our throats, when we have a binge drinking issue in the country. Then we get people such as Lauren, and those who don't drink for whatever reason, who feel completely isolated. I enjoy alcohol, but I couldn't drink every night or get drunk like they promote in freshers or these Carnage events.
Maybe if we didn't promote it so much then we wouldn't see some of the irresponsible behaviour as seen in the show. It's about time the universities actually organised alternative activities to drinking every night. Then those who don't drink can fit in better, it can be discrimination at times especially those with medical issues.
Actually, many universities work against binge drinking my raising the prices of alcohol in their unions (a double vodka and lemonade was more expensive than two singles at ours) and have information around the union on the dangers of binge drinking and how it can ruin your night out.
There are also many societies as well as events put on by the union that do not focus on drinking.
I was thinking that whilst watching it but in fairness to Leicester they are doing everything that they can to make sure their students are safe and healthy (I was particularly impressed with Union staff helping that girl home after she had a bit too much).
It would be a bit naive to think that the issues that the programme addresses are exclusive to Leicester; they happen at every university or any area with a young population.
What would put me off is sharing a flat with 21 people!

I didn't know you could share with that amount of people, thought it was 11/12 at best in some places.
I'm a bit like Lauren in the terms that I don't drink(health reasons)..but if i still socialise with my flatmates and go out with them and drink lemonade or something will I end up being like her and sat crying by myself? I'll join in with their drinking games just with water or lemonade... Idk I feel really nervous now.
Probably not.
If I were you, join in with pre-drinks like you said, but I wouldn't go out clubbing. That's what I do when I don't want to drink.
There will be plenty of opportunities for you to socialise with flatmates and similar people in societies without alcohol being the centre.

One of my friends at Royal Holloway is sharing a floor (not individual flats) with 40 people. She is catered though, so they obviously don't need as much kitchen space.

I totally agree that there should be more events organised for non-drinkers. As someone who doesn't drink, I feel uncomfortable being around drinking and drunk people so I can imagine why Lauren felt so overwhelmed.
I don't think people like her should be made to feel like they have to join in, in order to have a good social life. I think societies are a good idea because it focuses on people's hobbies instead of drinking.

Societies and sports clubs do their activity and then go out and get hammered though

are there any activities that take place during the evening that do not involve alcohol
