Because X represents maximum displacement and when X was at max y was at minimum just behind X...Idk but my teacher always said that the motion of particle along the wave is from right to left and as for the phase... U would know that pie represent 180 degrees means half a cycle but in the picture X is even half of the half circle above the graph(half a wavelength) showing quarter of wavelength thus pie by 2
