Brine shrimp:
Dispose the brine shrimp back in to the holding tank after inspection-
Control:Oxygen,light,salinity and pH
explanation:Increase in temp. causes increases in K.E of molecules. Many proteins involved in growth.High temp means more enzyme -substrate collision and hence higher growth. After 35 'C starts to denature.

Snails:
Control: Size and age of snail , size and position of snail, habituation prior to exp.,snail wetness/dryness , and length of eye stalk(measurement)
Dependent:Time to re-emerge from shell
Independent:No. of stimuli
Hypothesis:there is a significant -ve correlation between no. of stimuli and time taken to re-emerge from shell.

The mark and recapture method can be used. You can visit the area and capture the animals using nets or whatever then place a tag on them and release them unharmed. Then on the second visit, you capture the animals again and count the number of them with a tag. The estimate of the population size is given by the equation: (Total number of animals captured and marked on the first visit) x (Total number captured on the second visit)/ Number of animals captured in the first visit who were recaptured in the second.

Hey Rizam, no one here seems willing to be discussing Q3, and I can't stay for long, but here's a tip. Go over the latest past paper, starting with the sample assessment stuff. Read the question, try to understand it, then read the markscheme points. ofcourse you'll have to develop these points into a well-developed paragraph to earn full marks. As you solve the past papers you'll notice they are all the same: suggest a method, describe it in detail, write variables and those to be determined, control, etc... and so memorize the outline and you'll be good
Goodluck!

Quote if you post to me!

HELP NEEDED!!
IN question 2 in the sample assessment paper, we had to draw the bar chart for the mean heart rate for regular and non-regular caffeine drinkers... Now we had to represent range for the regular caffeine drinkers... any idea how to draw the range bar?? :s-smilie:

Original post by Catatonia
I think it's like an error bar.

Bar chart has a value of 5 for example. It's a mean that was calculated by adding together: (4+5+6)/3 then on your bar you make this sign ---> I where the upper horizontal line is on 6 and the lower one is on 4. It shows you the range of values from where the mean was calculated. You'll have to make two separate ones for both the bars to indicate the range for both.

I'm not a 100% sure if it's the same thing but I was just group studying right now and everybody agreed it's probably this :P

Please quote me if you know I'm right/wrong for sure
