A*/A at A-level chemistry

How do u get an A or an A* at A-level chemistry? How much work did u have to do and exactly what books did u use? Most people say the cgp books are very good and they might get u an A but my teachers say that u shudnt read too much from that book and only do last minute revision from there because some of the stuff is wrong in the cgp books. And what about the edexcel chemistry book? Personally i find that book useless.
How many hours a day did u study for chem?
What was ur studying technique?
Did u make ur own revision notes etc?

Thank you

My AS textbook was useless, it was this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Edexcel-Chemistry-Student-Level-Sciences/dp/1405896353
But my A2 one was pretty good, and they have an AS version which will probably be good too: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Edexcel-Chemistry-AS-Graham-Hill/dp/0340949082/ref=cm_rdp_product_img

You'd be surprised how many mistakes you can find in textbooks. Thats why its best to have more than one to refer to. The CGP books are pretty good but I mainly used them for revision.

I didn't really spend a set amount of time studying for Chem, I just studied until I was confident with the content and had memorised most of it. The key to doing this is practice questions. That way you'll get used to questions and know when you fully understand something.
Edit: I got an A.

yeh keeping more than one textbook really helps. At the beginning of my AS year i was flunking chemistry and getting Ds in my class test but in the end i revised everything from CGP and came out with an A in AS chemistry. i just need an A or an A* for A2 chemistry.

Personally I think those revision guides are useless! The notes you make from a proper textbook are a lot better! Get this textbook http://www.amazon.co.uk/Edexcel-A2-Chemistry-George-Facer/dp/0340957611/ref=pd_sim_b_2 or the AS version, as required. It's REALLY helpful!

As for how much study I did, I just made sure I understood every topic after being taught and later on, did past papers. Basically, keep on top of all the work DON'T leave it till later (There is no later!)

good luck:smile:
