How to Learn: Psychology Students & A* - A grade Students Wanted To Answer Ideally :)

SKIP TO QUESTION IF NEED BE

Intro to Learning Styles: -
We all have to admit that we would like to be more intelligent, either it knowing all the facts of the Cold War or being tri-lingual. But one thing most kids are missing to achieve their full potential is learning how to learn.
It is a topic that has me baffled recently. Learning how to learn. There are so many theories out there about learning that it is confusing as to which to pay attention to and which to ditch. A recent study conducted by Psychology in the Public's Interest concluded the best learning methods. But it just concludes learning methods and doesn't say anything about learning styles (visual, auditory and kinaesthetic). Does this mean that learning styles don't matter and it is truly down to how the student learns the material? What about the theory that each brain is wired differently?

Another theory I came across is that it is not just how we learn something but also how active our cognitive area of the brain is. Seems plausible but how do we increase the activity of our cognitive area? I found no proven examples.
I also found other websites that offered learning styles that claimed accelerated learning. One is Gordon Dryden's 'Unlimited' (also a book).

Another thing is that a lot of studies and sites only tell you how to improve memory short term and long term but also don't tell you how to apply to different subjects e.g. Language learning.

SKIP TO THIS PART:
I am the student that works hours before each exam and tries hard during the year but I still get mid-grades (C and B's). :frown:
I'm seeking for a new way to learn, revise so that I can one day become an A grade student and my family will start to give me some respect...:colondollar:
I am sitting these GCSEs in May - June: English Lit & Lan; Maths; Additional Science; Triple Science; RE; German and Geography. I really want some good grades! :frown::o:D
My learning results:
+ VARK: Visual http://www.vark-learn.com/english/page.asp?p=visual
+ Memletics Questionaire: Visual and Solitary http://cdn-3.learning-styles-online.com/pic.php?i=5ad18e8962780f71233580a0ddfc62ce.png
Should I do this one?

But the trouble is someone pointed out to me that when I revising for my Maths mock, is that I didn't learn visually. :s-smilie: I mean I watched videos and I understood everything but I didn't remember it until I actually did it and they say most people are like that. Does this make me kinaesthetic and my results nonsense?
My hardest subject is German, I'm predicted a D/C grade borderline. I find it so hard to learn the words and remember them. I have used flashcards, online, etc, etc but I loose interest because it takes so long for me just to recall two words or so! :frown:
Should I bother buying books that show techniques? I was thinking of buying the book from this site: http://www.thelearningweb.net/chapter09/page335.html or some books from here: http://education.jhu.edu/PD/newhorizons/new-horizons-for-learning-store/New%20Horizons%20for%20Learning%20Store or Amazon. Thoughts?
But yeah this is it, so thanks soo much and hopefully I will get good grades, in the end...:biggrin::biggrin:

Sorry it was long, but it's a big topic
Thumbs up and reps to all good answers
