We do 0.95^n, the probability of n failures. The n has to be large enough so that the probability of n failures is less than 0.01 (i.e the probability of no successes must be less than 0.01, which means the probability of succeeding is 0.99 or more), and we're trying to find n.

You flip the inequality sign when dealing with negative numbers. The log of anything less than 1 will be negative.
