Thanks. @Boil if you plot the inequalities on a number line (yeah I know) it's clear to see -2 is the only answer: https://www.desmos.com/calculator/um4a23ffwt

Otherwise it is clear that {2,1,0}{2,3,4,...}={2} \{-2, -1, 0\} \cap \{-2, -3, -4, ...\} = \{-2\} , the first two sets being the integer solutions to the two inequalities

Shouldn't there be 1 in the first set also since it was -11/5<x<=5

I got both inequalities right but stupidly misread the question and wrote -1 instead of -2. Do you think I can get 4 method marks since I only went wrong in the end.

Probably ...
Original post by gcse0
Dammit, I misread the question since I thought they asked for 1 solution that cannot be in both inequalities.
-11/5 < x <= 1
x < -3/2

How many method marks will I get since I got to the end and wrote the wrong answer?

it was a 4 or 5 mark question so you would probably get 2 marks only

looking at your previous post and this unofficial markscheme, you seem to be quite good at maths, whats the furthest you've doing ukmt maths challenge(if you've done it)

Yeah, I messed up some easy questions too. For the find the area of the rectangle question I found the area of the triangle instead. I made a stupid mistake on the circle theorem question. I made a substitution error on the quadratic simultaneous equation. I got stuck on the 'find the value of cos in terms of k' and guessed incorrectly. Hopefully I still get method marks lol. Really hope I scrape enough marks for A^.

I made almost every single one of those mistakes you just named haha. Just goes to show how easily you can be robbed of marks you deserve just by making stupid little errors throughout!

1a. 3030 (and 30-30 is probably allowed) Marks=3?
b. 1.5-1.5 Marks=?

2a. (13261)\begin{pmatrix} -13 & 2 \\ 6 & 1 \end{pmatrix} Marks=?
b. 118 \frac{11}{8} Marks=?
c. Because the number of columns of B does not equal the number of rows of A Marks=1

3a. Since 1365=357131365 = 3*5*7*13 , choose any two factors, multiply those together, and write the other two factors: e.g 3,5,913, 5, 91 Marks=?
b. Factorised, ab11b=b(a11)ab-11b = b(a-11) so bb is an arbitrary square e.g 44, and a=36a=36 Marks=?

4. 2744 2744 Marks=?

5. 45\frac{4}{5} Marks=?

6. 12.3112.31 Marks=?

7. 1616 Marks=?

8. 106.1106.1 Marks=?

9. x=2x=-2 Marks=? www.desmos.com/calculator/um4a23ffwt .
Otherwise it is clear that {2,1,0,1}{2,3,4,...}={2} \{-2, -1, 0, 1\} \cap \{-2, -3, -4, ...\} = \{-2\} , the first two sets being the integer solutions to the two inequalities

10. 15.215.2 Marks=?

11a. Draw the thing. Marks=?
11b. 5<=f(x)<=7 -5 <= f(x) <= 7 Marks=?

12a. 3(5x)(5+x)3(5-x)(5+x) Marks=?
b. 12n12n Marks=?

13.50a23 \frac{50a^2}{3} Marks=5?

14. a=4a=4, b=10b=10 Marks=?

15. y=8xw+1y=\frac{8x}{w+1} Marks=3?

16a. 32b3^{-2b} Marks=1
b. 5x+25^{x+2} Marks=1
c. 23m2^{3m} Marks=1

17a. (4,25)(4, -25) Marks=?
c. The roots are x=5.79x=5.79 and x=1.21x=1.21 Marks=?
18. 32y25\frac{32y^2}{5} Marks=?

19a. kk. Marks=1 Think of 19a. and 19b. as transformations: https://www.desmos.com/calculator/4kphkki8vl
b. k-k Marks=1
c. 1k2 \sqrt{1-k^2}. This is rearranging of sin2x+cos2x=1 \sin^2 x + \cos^2 x = 1 with sin2x=k2 \sin^2 x = k^2 Marks=2

20a. Angle at circumference is half angle at centre Marks=1
b. e.g Angle in triangle 90x90-x
Angle on straight line 90+x90+x
Opposite angle in cyclic quadrilateral 90x90-x
Other base angle 90x90-x
Other angle in triangle 1802(90x)=2x,QED180-2(90-x) = 2x, QED Marks=5?
There are obviously many other ways to do this. I think we all know if we got or did not get marks on this question

21a. (0,8)(0, 8) Marks=?
b. 2x+2-2x+2 Marks=?
c. Normal equation y=12x+8y= \frac{-1}{2}x + 8
So intersects x-axis at (16,0)(16, 0)
The rest is easy (show one length is twice the other) Marks=?

22. (6/5,7/5) (-6/5, -7/5) and (2,5)(2, 5) were the pairs of solutions Marks=?

23. 1-1 is the constant, because

1tan2x1sin2x \frac{1}{\tan^2 x} - \frac{1}{\sin^2 x}

=1(sinxcosx)21sin2x = \frac{1}{(\frac{\sin x}{\cos x})^2} - \frac{1}{\sin^2 x}

=1sin2xcos2x1sin2x = \frac{1}{\frac{\sin^2 x}{\cos^2 x}} - \frac{1}{\sin^2 x}

=cos2xsin2x1sin2x = \frac{\cos^2 x}{\sin^2 x} - \frac{1}{\sin^2 x}

=cos2x1sin2x = \frac{\cos^2 x - 1}{\sin^2 x}

=(cos2x+1)sin2x = \frac{- (-\cos^2 x + 1)}{\sin^2 x}

=sin2xsin2x = \frac{- \sin^2 x}{\sin^2 x}

=1 = -1 Marks=4?

24. 3(2x5)2703(2x-5)^2 - 70 Marks=4?

Question 24 was definitely 5 marks
Overall i liked paper 2 better than paper 1, hopefully the boundaries for A^ will be low

Yeah, lol :smile: At least now I know to check through my answers more.
Does anyone know what question 5 and 6 was, answer for them is 4/5 and 12.31?

I think 6 was maybe the cone question.

Yeah I remember getting the only integer being -2, I just forgot what the question was, thank you

I feel like I'm the only person who found this paper easy (bar a couple). I've only lost 4 marks on this one, but 13 odd marks on paper 1 lol.

I see 20 voters at 101-105 marks in the poll m8
