Because its between a metal and non-metal, im pretty sure its ionic
Structure is a giant lattice, thus lots of ionic bonds present.
Ionic bonds require a lot of energy to break, this multiplied but the number results in a very high melting point needed to overcome all these electrostatic forces of attraction.
