Where does the H- ion come from? Do we need to know it for A-level chemistry?

I forgot to mention that this is for the nucleophilic addition reaction for a ketone/aldehyde to an alcohol.
If it's going from an Aldehyde/ Ketone to Alcohol, it would be the NaBH4 reduction reaction.

The Hydride Ion H- in this case comes from one of the Hydrogens in NaBH4,
