Hi, when I multiply R by my expression for cos theta, I get 2k^3 mg / 3 sqrt(3k^2 +6k -1) but this doesn't seem to be the correct answer. Anybody know where I'm going wrong? Am I supposed to rationalise?

Don't worry about rationalising, not got my working on me (or seen yours) so not sure what's gone wrong, but I would check your denominator.
hi, did you solve the question? I've got part A but am stuck on part B now. I've drawn a triangle for the bottom three spheres and also tried equating T = 2*R*cos(30) to try and find the minimum distance between the bottom spheres.
