What's the difference between reduction and nucleophillic addition please?
Reduction is a reaction which involves the gain of electrons remeber OIL RIG. Nucleophilic addition can be thought of as a type of reduction as nucleophiles are electron pair donors and so the product will have gained electrons during the reaction e.g. the reduction of a ketone by NaBH4 can be seen as the nucleophilic addition of a hydride. However not all reductions are nucleophilic additions e.g. the reduction of an alkene using a hetrogenous catalyst like Pd/C.

Hope that helps!
