How To Make the Most of Open Days

Although we've had a few already, another Kingston University Open Day is on the horizon - you can now register to attend our in-person undergraduate open day on Wednesday 14th June! Whether you're a college student scouting out some potential universities before starting your UCAS application later this year, or a Kingston fresher looking forward to beginning your studies in September, the open day is a great way to get to know the Kingston University campus and get a better idea of the courses and services we offer.

Know Your Transport Options
Whilst getting to the general area of your university might not be that difficult for some nearby Home students, finding the campuses' and their multiple buildings can sometimes be a different story entirely! Fortunately, Kingston University is well provided for in terms of transport - Kingston Rail Station is only about a fifteen to twenty minute walk from the Penrhyn Road Campus, and we have two large nearby bus stations (Cromwell Road Bus Station and Fairfield) with regular buses to and from the university campuses. Once you arrive on campus, Student Ambassadors and staff will help direct you anywhere you want to go, so don't worry about getting lost!

Plan Ahead!
At nearly all universities, different courses are situated on separate parts of the campus, so make sure you know the campus where your chosen course will be taking place! You can usually find this information on the course page on the university website - for example, at Kingston, most art courses take place in Knight's Park, whilst a lot of our Humanities courses are located at Penrhyn Road. Furthermore, if there's something you particularly want advice on, make sure to allocate some time to speak to an experienced member of staff to find out what you need - for example, our Student Services Exhibition is a great opportunity to ask questions on accomodation, disability and mental health, and student funding.

Take Advantage of Any Freebies!
A bit cheeky, sure, but there's nothing better than a freebie, whether that's food, stationery, or a cool university tote bag. Kingston University offers free tea and coffee at all their open days (usually alongside a selection of snacks) - so make sure to grab a cup whilst here instead of forking out at a nearby coffee shop!

Don't JUST look at the University!
Whilst getting a vibe for the university itself is important, it's equally important to know whether or not you'd want to live in that university's town/city. So, if you're already in the area for the day, why not check out Kingston-upon-Thames' town centre when the Open Day wraps up? Kingston has a wide array of great restaurants for you and your family/friends - whether that's the Giggling Squid, Franco Manca or Poor Boys - and is also an ideal location for a scenic riverside evening walk.

If you've any questions about attending the upcoming Open Day, just pop them down below and I'll get back to you as soon as possible - hope to see some of you there!
