Firstly, deduce the oxidation state of the iron in Fe2SO4.

There are two ways I imagine you could go about this (note that (2) requires knowledge of the second year of A level - I’m not sure how far into the A level course you are):

(1): Work out the electron configuration of the iron in this oxidation state and decide whether it would be stable or not.

(2): Consider the lattice enthalpy of formation for this salt. Taking into account the relative charges and sizes of the ions and how strongly attracted to each other they would be, is the lattice enthalpy of formation exothermic enough to give a negative standard enthalpy change of formation?
