The Best Bars/Pubs in Kingston-Upon-Thames!

Whilst I'd like to say there's nothing students love more than hard work and study sessions in the library, I think we all know that's not entirely true. I've compiled a list of some of my favourite pub/bar spots in Kingston - but feel free to add any of your suggestions as well in the replies below!

Chadwick’s Home of Zoology
If you’re ever passing by Kingston riverfront and see a building with long windows and bright greenery, you’ve probably just seen Chadwick’s. Located in the Griffin Centre, this is a great bar for anyone looking for a fancy evening-out with Instagram potential. Although it specialises in upmarket, botanical cocktails with names such as the Peacock, Monarch and Small Tortoiseshell, Chadwick’s also serves a range of seafood platters, sharing boards and light nibbles. Opening and closing hours vary depending on the day of the week, but it usually closes at either 11p.m. or 1.a.m (Friday and Saturday).

O’Neill’s
Located in the market centre, O’Neill’s is an easy-going Irish pub with your typical Irish food and drink menus. There’s always a great atmosphere here especially when there’s a footie game on! and the regular live music and outside seating options make it a great location for a chill night-out in the warm summer evenings.

The Black Horse
Perhaps Kingston’s most loved pub (at least from what I’ve heard), The Black Horse’s range of high quality grub, live music and laid-back beer garden make it a popular choice for both students and families alike. Although located slightly outside of the Kingston town centre, it’s a handy option for any students currently living in Norbiton as it’s only a short 5 minute walk from Norbiton Station. It’s also dog friendly so if you’re in the area with your pooch, consider stopping in for a quick pint!

The King’s Tun
Now, it wouldn’t be a good list of pubs if I didn’t at least include the local Spoon’s! Just opposite to PRYZM, The King’s Tun is a well-known family friendly pub with two floors of seating and relatively cheap food and drink. Whilst it can get a bit busy at times, especially after a concert or a big game, it’s a stalwart of the Kingston University student experience and I find ordering from the app can sometimes make getting served a bit quicker. 😊

Cornerstone
Another pub located right next to PRYZM is the Cornerstone, a Greene King pub which can be found in The Rotunda. This is one of my favourite pubs to go to now it’s summer the large windows at the front let a lot of light in. and they regularly show a good variety of live sports. It was refurbed in 2020, so it still looks quite new and has a sports area where you can play shuffleboards, pool and darts. If you are ordering some food, I’d highly recommend trying the burgers as they’re super filling and excellent value for money!
