Volume of gas will become equal in both gas bottles as molecules want to disperse as much as possible.

Taking Y as reference: new V value is 1.5V (V+2V=3V, then /2=1.5V) which is 3/2 times larger than old V.

n, temp and k are constant therefore in pV=nkt, p and V are inversely proportional.

Therefore p decreases by a factor of 3/2 which means 2p/(3/2) = 4p/3

I would approach the problem slightly different.
The total quantity of the gas remains unchanged after W is opened.
The new pressure is determined by “new” quantity of gas, nX + nY and new volume, VX + VY.
